When it comes to vandalism, or any other type of theft with your automobile, you will always want to make sure you are covered. If you are looking to have your vehicle covered in any situation, you would probably want comprehensive and collision insurance. They both cover similar things, but are still different in some ways. A lot of times an insurance company will offer a “comp/coll” package which gives you the comprehensive and collision insurance. To point out how the two are different, comprehensive covers things like:

•	Your car being vandalized while at a friend’s house
•	Hitting a deer that jumped in the road
•	Your sound system being taken when your shopping
•	Hail storm damages when you are driving home
•	Water damage from a flooded road

So comprehensive insurance covers things that happen to your car while you are out, or things of nature that are uncontrollable. On the other hand collision insurance covers your vehicle when:

•	You swerve at an animal and hit someone’s property
•	You aren’t looking at the road and rear-end someone
•	You hit a car in a parking lot
•	You run a stop sign and hit opposing traffic

With the collision insurance, it basically will cover accidents that you are at fault for. So even though comprehensive and collision insurance will cover costs the repair your car, there are differences in what is covered with the two. Comprehensive covers a lot of uncontrollable nature accidents along with theft and vandalism. Collision insurance covers your vehicle when you cause harm to it in an at fault accident. The two insurances are very useful, and can save you a lot of money.

If you were interested in getting just collision or just comprehensive it may be possible, but you would have to check with your insurance company first. A lot of times the two are offered together on your policy, but some insurance companies handle them as separate parts to your policy. These coverage’s are not mandatory in any way, but they are recommended to keep your car safe from the elements. Unless you are on a car loan you really only need your states minimum auto insurance requirements, which usually is just liability. Check with your states specific laws to find out your auto insurance minimums, and contact your auto insurance agent to see how they offer comprehensive and collision coverage.

No matter what your driving on the road, you must have some type of insurance to drive safely and legally. Even if your car has a lower blue book value, you still need insurance because it will cover damages that were caused by you. One section on your auto insurance policy is liability coverage. Liability is there to cover damage costs on other vehicles if you were the cause of an accident. Without liability insurance there would be almost no way to cover damage costs if involved in an accident. No matter what vehicle your driving, or how much it’s worth, you must have at least some type of liability insurance.

One thing that is optional in most cases is collision insurance. Collision insurance is what covers your vehicles damage costs, if you were at fault during an accident. If you’re driving around a car that was worth $1,000 to the insurance company, it would probably not be worth having collision insurance. If you were to get in an accident with that car having collision insurance, and the damages cost over $1,000 to repair, the insurance company would rule it as your vehicle being totaled. When your car is totaled to the insurance company, you would get a check that only covers the value of the car. The main reason that you would usually only get collision insurance on a brand new or high value car, is because the insurance would cover all damage costs under the value of the vehicle.

If you have a car that is not worth that much to the insurance company, it may be a good thing if your budget for auto insurance is limited. Lower priced vehicles usually cost less to insure than a brand new vehicle. That does not mean that you can drive around a car that is worth $200 and expect to get a huge deal on auto insurance. also looked at. If you get into a lot of accidents, it will not matter the cost of your car, your insurance premium will still probably go up with every claim you file.

Insurance is necessary on any vehicle that you are driving no matter how much it is worth. Insurance is there to protect you and the other driver. If you got caught in an accident without proper insurance, you would be responsible for all damage costs, plus fees and fines from law enforcement. Make sure you have proper insurance, for every vehicle and keep a safe driving record. Then you are sure to have an affordable auto insurance premium.
